Sasaki Institute

Mission Statement

Working in the shared interest of the nation's science and engineering enterprise, the Sasaki Institute develops and implements transformative approaches for advancing commerce, scholarship, and policy for the public good.

In partnership with the Federal government and with strong involvement from industry, the University of Oklahoma has embarked upon a bold initiative, establishing a Research Campus (RC) as an integral extension of its Norman Campus. Serving as a portal to 21 st century academia, the RC provides an unparalleled research and learning environment as well as dynamic framework for stimulating business innovation and growth. It also faces the significant challenge of interconnecting diverse organizations that span a vast spectrum of interests and cultures – from the creation of new basic knowledge in a completely open setting to the highly specialized development and application of technology where market competition demands secrecy and protection. Success of the RC enterprise, and the value of its impact both locally and nationally, require an organization positioned uniquely at the crossroads of academia, industry and government with the ability to serve all interests.

The Sasaki Institute will meet this compelling need by complementing the activities of extant programs and serving as a mechanism by which constituents of the Nation’s science and engineering enterprise – with atmospheric science as an important focus – establish and execute new shared visions of leadership and innovation, leverage diverse viewpoints and cultures in order to strengthen rather than divide, bring the value of science, engineering and advanced technology to new communities, and continue to empower Oklahoma as a national pacesetter.
